Housing and Hope at the 2018 Arlington Reads
Every year, Arlington Public Library hosts Arlington Reads, a series that brings our community together to talk about books and urgent issues.
This year, the Arlington Reads series will feature three critically acclaimed authors: Katherine Boo, author of “Behind the Beautiful Forevers: Life, Death and Hope in a Mumbai Undercity”; Richard Rothstein, author of “The Color of Law: A Forgotten History of How Our Government Segregated America”; and Matthew Desmond, author of “Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City.” These experts will focus on the themes of the “centrality of home, hope against all odds, failed government housing and economic policies and our attempt to understand our own humanity.” You can learn more about the authors and event dates here.
These authors will share important national and global perspectives on issues of housing and poverty. As a complement, the Community Progress Network will be also showcasing our Data Walk to zero in on how these issues affect our neighbors in Arlington. The Data Walk will be displayed at the Central Library from April 1-26 and will host a guided Data Walk Tour on April 26th.
