Arlington Mill Residences, a unique partnership between Arlington County and APAH, provides much needed affordable housing using the innovative concept of “public land for housing.” Built atop the County-built parking garage, the discounted long-term lease for this public land dramatically reduced development costs in the rapidly urbanizing Arlington County, VA, enabling APAH to serve many more low income families. Arlington Mill provides 122 new apartments targeted to individuals and families earning between 30% and 60% of the area median income. Thirteen units at very low rents provide permanent supportive homes for formerly homeless individuals and vulnerable families. Over 3,000 people applied for apartments when APAH opened the waiting list, illustrating the tremendous demand for affordable housing in this community.
