35 for 35: APAH Summer Camp (Part 1)
APAH hosted its third annual summer camp this year. The program was expanded, and 37 students attended across two locations: The Springs and Columbia Hills. The three-week program was packed with fun and educational programming.
Campers went on field trips to Kings Dominion, the movies, and Go Karts!
There were also educational activities. Virginia Cooperative Extension (VCE) taught a session about money management. Each camper received a set amount of money to use at a mock-store, and competed to see who could budget the most efficiently. Campers also participated in an activity called the “word wall,” where counselors add words to a wall for campers to define. For several campers, this was their third time completing the word wall since they’ve attended the APAH summer camp each year. Campers shared that “they know all the words now,” and kept asking for more and more words to define, filling up the entire word wall in a record 30 minutes. Campers also created balloon rockets, batteries made with potatoes, and more.
It’s sure been a fun-filled summer at APAH’s summer camp.
