Mental Health Awareness Month 2023
It’s Mental Health Awareness Month!
Health and Wellness is a key pillar of APAH’s resident services model, and we have been expanding mental health support for residents in a variety of ways.
With the help of Our Stomping Ground, APAH was connected with art therapist, Hannah Bowen.
Residents can sign up for a free, 45-minute private psychotherapy session with Hannah. Participants explore various art mediums that encourage self-expression and creativity, including fluid mediums, such as watercolors and paints, and 3D sensory stimulating mediums, such as clay and sculpture materials. Residents can also choose to engage in traditional psychotherapy methods with Hannah. The program has been overwhelmingly well-received!
APAH has also hosted Kokedama workshops for residents to build community and celebrate nature, which has positive mental health benefits. Kokedama, the practice of suspending plant roots in soil and coating them in moss, is a form of Japanese garden art.
This month, residents were connected to mental health resources during the Kokedama workshops.
