A Place Where I Belong – Loudoun View Senior Residences
In April, APAH hosted a dental clinic at its Loudoun View Senior Residences; the property, our first in Loudoun County, opened its doors for residents last summer. Through a partnership with the Fenwick Foundation, this was the second dental clinic held to provide free dental care to residents who do not drive or have limited dental insurance. Services included dental exams, cleanings, x-rays, and more.
Dentists and dental hygienists met with 14 residents on their fully outfitted mobile dental van to provide care. Donald shared his appreciation for the impactful resident service programs at Loudoun View, like the dental clinic, and how staff are always friendly and helpful.
Donald turns 76 years old this month. He’s a veteran. Last November he lived in a shelter. Donald moved into Loudoun View in February 2023 and describes his new home as a blessing, explaining, “this is the best situation I’ve ever had in my life. It makes me feel good and honored to feel respected for the first time.”
Donald had been seeking dental care for the past two years but high costs and issues with insurance prevented him from receiving the care he needed. After living at Loudoun View for only two months, he’s already received a free cleaning and scheduled four extractions. Donald stated, “I will never leave Loudoun View. I’ve had a hard life, but this property makes me feel valued. I love it here.”
These dental clinics are providing a critical resource for the health and well-being of our senior residents and removing barriers that have prevented residents from receiving recent care, including lack of transportation, lack of insurance, and fear of the dentist. APAH’s resident services staff are always listening to residents to learn what programs or resources will propel their journey towards achieving their goals. Together, we can help each and every resident make the most of home.
APAH thanks our partners: Fenwick Foundation, Dental Innovations of Virginia, Dr. Julie Coe, and Dr. Joon Coe.
