Once again, APAH is working with a faith institution to develop co-located affordable housing and worshipping space. APAH and Central United Methodist Church of Ballston (CUMC), located across the street from the Ballston-MU Metro, are partnering to develop the Ballston Station project.

We first shared this project with you last year, and recently, APAH signed an agreement to ground lease with CUMC. This follows an Arlington County Board approval to extend the project’s site plan until 2023, positioning the project for an expected start of construction in late 2021.

After two years of construction, the mixed-use community will bring the neighborhood 144 affordable apartments and over 2,500 square feet of dedicated community amenity and service space including: a new worship space for CUMC, a meeting hall, a commercial kitchen for onsite food distributions, and daycare facility for an estimated 90 children.

The project’s location at the heart of Ballston will allow APAH to pilot an increased level of multi-faceted, onsite resident service programming that leverages neighborhood assets: engaged and committed expertise from top universities and research institutions; innovative technology partners; and, expansive facilities for resident programs and services.

APAH envisions this site—given its generous meeting space and transit rich location—to serve as a hub for resident services as we continue to grow our Arlington portfolio.
